City Installing New LED Street Lights

More than 160 new LED streetlights are being installed on the busiest streets in Elk Grove, thanks to an American Reinvestment and Recovery Act grant.  The new, advanced LED lights consume approximately 50 percent less energy than the current technology, and last up to three times as long. The lights will be installed on Elk Grove Blvd. from Bruceville Road to Franklin Blvd, and on Laguna Blvd. from Old Creek Drive to Franklin Blvd.   The work should be completed by the end of October.  For more information, contact Project Manager Jeff Werner at 916-478-3602.

Road Closure/Construction Moratorium
for the Holiday Season

The holiday season is just around the corner, and the City of Elk Grove will institute a construction moratorium on selected City streets from November 20, 2011 through January 2, 2012. Construction activities and house moving occurring between the hours of 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM that interfere with public traffic on specific City streets will be restricted to emergency repairs as set forth in Section 7-8.06 of the Standard Construction Specifications.  Enclosed is a table and map depicting the designated streets for the moratorium.  Construction activities and house moving pertaining to these specific streets shall be completed prior to the moratorium or be postponed.

The City appreciates your cooperation and hopes this reminder will help to minimize scheduling conflicts.  If you have construction scheduling difficulties or questions, please contact Kerrie Stevens at (916) 687-3013. More details.

Public Works crews install a new speed control device near Pleasant Grove Elementary School as part of the City’s Speed Control Program

Six Elk Grove Streets Will Get Speed Control Help

Six Elk Grove streets will be transformed with traffic calming improvements under the City’s Speed Control Program this summer.  A total of nine asphalt speed tables, three asphalt speed humps and signing and striping are being installed during this construction season on Pleasant Grove School Road, Toscano Drive, Sierra River Drive, Stathos Drive, Clarke Farms Drive and Sierra Street.

An additional twelve streets have been approved for speed tables, or speed humps, and fifteen streets have been approved for roadway stripping as part of the program.  These improvements will be installed as separate construction projects in the future as more funding becomes available.

The program establishes a system for residents to nominate and vote on streets to receive traffic calming measures, provided the streets meet qualifying safety criteria and funding is available.
