Making Way for the New Overcrossing on Grant Line Road

There’s a major pileup on Grant Line Road near the railroad and Waterman Road intersection. But we’re not talking cars, we’re talking dirt! Crews are working on the new overcrossing that will allow motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to safely avoid any delays caused by trains passing through. Construction for the new overcrossing will not impact traffic until winter, at which time, travelers will be notified of impacts via the Elk Grove newsletter, message boards, detour signage, and the media. Traffic is expected to be shifted onto the completed half of the new overcrossing in the spring, when two lanes will open (one in each direction). Work is targeted for completion by the end of 2015. This project is being funded by the Elk Grove Roadway Fee Program and $5 million in Highway Rail Crossing Safety Account funds from the State.
