Water Resources: Maintenance
The drainage and flood control system operated and maintained by the City Of Elk Grove consists of 66 miles of open channels, 330 miles of drainage pipes, four pump stations, over 8 miles of levees, four storm water pump stations and 19 flood control and water quality detention basins.
If you observe local stoppages in the storm drainage system, please contact Public Works at 916-687-3005.
If a street drain inlet or roadside ditch at a culvert or inlet is stopped up by leaves or other debris, remove the debris with a leaf or garden rake to allow storm water to flow freely. Do not remove the inlet grate.
You can help the City maintain the Storm Water Drainage System by:
- Keeping grass clippings, concrete, trash, pet waste and dirt out of the streets, gutters, creeks and channels.
- Keeping your car from leaking fluids into the streets.
- Remembering that only rain water should enter the drain.
- Using fertilizer and pesticides according to directions.
- Reporting illegal dumping.
- Spreading the word about protecting our Storm Water Drainage System.
